Founded in 1959 by Theodore Ptashne, House of Note has been a trusted full-service violin shop in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for over six decades. Known for its exceptional craftsmanship, expert repairs, and high-quality string instruments, the shop quickly became a local favorite. In the 1980s, Ed and Leslie Volker took ownership, continuing Ptashne’s legacy and building the shop’s strong reputation for serving musicians of all levels, both locally and nationally.

In 2020, longtime employee and Luthier, Jeff Anderson purchased House of Note from Leslie Volker, bringing with him years of experience and a deep passion for the violin world. Along with his fine staff, Jeff continues to offer personalized service, fine instruments, and expert repairs, while maintaining the values of craftsmanship and integrity that have been at the heart of House of Note since its founding. Today, House of Note is proud to serve not just the regional community, but musicians across the nation, continuing its tradition of excellence and dedication to the string community.
